Five Advantages of using an SLR
In this next video we will outline five major advantages of using a single lens reflex (SLR) camera vs a point and shoot or a cell phone camera.
Camera Anatomy
Camera Anatomy we cover elements of your camera that are essential that you understand. Look for the specific terms focal length and aperture in the upcoming video.
Aperture Part 1
This video introduces you to the concepts of aperture and shutter speed. Keep in mind as you watch that all aperture is, is the size of the opening of the lens. Shutter speed is simply the time allowed for light to hit the sensor.
Watch for home based videos and exercises at the end of the section.
Aperture Part II
Part II aperture and shutter speed.
Depth of Field (aka Blurry Background)
In this video we cover one of the big ideas of this class which is creating beautiful photographs and blurring the background out using aperture.
Watch for home based examples and exercises at the end.
Focus Points
Here we demonstrate how to focus on exactly what you want to. Watch for exclusive Nikon and Canon sections at the end.
Shutter Speed Priority
We cover another manual mode – shutter speed priority – in the next video. You would have just finished aperture priority and instead of directly controlling aperture and indrectly shutter speed, in this mode you will not directly control shutter speed and indirectly aperture.
Watch for the home based video at the end.
Manual Exposure
The next section covers using full manual exposure mode on your SLR. Remember that aperture and shutter speed priority will basically get you to the same answer. We want you to feel comfortable with your camera when you leave so at the end of this section choose whether you will photograph in aperture priority of manual exposure and finish the remainder of the course with that.
We can’t stress enough how thrilled you should be if you leave this course understanding aperture priority or full manual.
Welcome to the amazing world of photography!
White Balance
In the next video we show you how to change your white balance and what it is used for. Before you start find either white balance or WB on your camera and be ready to change it.
ISO and Low Light Photography
We cover the basics of using the third key element on your camera: ISO. Be prepared to setup your camera in a darker area.
Lens Distortion and Selection
We cover the basics of distortion and selecting the right lens for the correct situation. Watch for home based exercises at the end.
Composition Rule of Thirds
All of the technical learning has completed and we go through compositional elements till the end of the class. These compositional exercises are some of most powerful in the entire course – they give you experience with your camera and push you beyond your normal bounds. Take lots of time with these exercises to develop your photography style.
Composition Details
We cover capturing details in this module – a wonderful tool for photographers to capture amazing images on their travels.
Composition Leading Lines
Use lines as an artistic tool in your photography! Learn how to draw attention to your subject through this short creative video.
